The working groups of the Basque Industry Platform on the Basque language, INDEUS, met today at the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to review this year’s projects.
Participants had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the Gipuzkoa Master Plan on Language Policy in the Workplace, the Gehi research project, the Euskorpora initiative, and the postgraduate program on Digital Transformation.
The Basque Terminology and Lexicography Center, UZEI, has joined the INDEUS Collaboration Network.
The headquarters of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council hosted this morning’s meeting of the working groups of the Basque Industry Platform INDEUS. The meeting brought together nearly 40 representatives from member companies. Amaia Arregi Agirre, Director General of Economic Promotion, and Garbiñe Mendizabal, Director General of Linguistic Equality, welcomed attendees and presented the Gipuzkoa Master Plan for Language Policy in the Workplace.
And this was not the only presentation of the day:
- Gehi Research: EMUN, the promoter of the initiative, explained the details of this study, which analyzes how Basque language plans contribute to business competitiveness.
- Euskorpora: The public strategic alliance for digital Basque aims to identify essential digital tools for companies and ensure that these tools can be developed in Basque.
- Postgraduate Program in Digital Transformation: EHU and UEU have jointly organized a postgraduate course to train Basque-speaking professionals in the profiles companies need, specifically in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and related areas.
The meeting also served to review the projects and challenges set by platform members for 2026. These include strengthening INDEUS’s communication strategy, developing a community-based onboarding strategy for new staff, promoting best practices, providing consultancy services in Basque, and advancing language technologies.
The latest member to join INDEUS also attended the meeting: UZEI, the Basque Terminology and Lexicography Center, which has now become part of the platform’s Cooperation Network.
INDEUS – Basque Industry Platform INDEUS is the platform focused on the Basque language in industry, an initiative promoted by the SPRI-Business Development Agency, the Basque Energy Agency, the Vice-Ministry of Language Policy, and the Provincial Councils of Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. The initiative was created to support industrial companies that have chosen to work in Basque by helping them obtain products and services in Basque. Along the way, INDEUS has also opened its doors to companies taking their first steps in introducing Basque.
